We spent a fascinating half hour with Jan.  He told us about how he started in the banking

business.  Not quite the aspect you would assume. As a graphics major in college he ended up working on the inside advertising in bank branches. This expertise took him to Saudi Arabia to help a bank there with its own in bank advertising.

Jan travelled to Saudi Arabia for three years and learned much about their culture and rules.  Ask Jan more about his experience at one of our meetings.

See more of Jan here.

April 26, 2011 – Tour of the Dublin Methodist Hospital

We fortunate Kiwanians were invited to tour the Dublin Methodist Hospital

Dublin Methodist Hospital Lobby

Overlooking the Lobby

again. (see slideshow here)

We started the day with lunch and a regular meeting. Our tour guides joined us and gave us some background about the hospital and how to become a volunteer.  Hang in there, George.  Your time will come.

We visited the meditation room which included the sacred books from many religions.  Tim thought he could potentially be taken by the rapture. The view of the lobby from above was great. Our guide pointed out that the waterfall has three layers each originating from a different level.

The tour included many areas – Emergency, maternity, pharmacy, a patient room, and the surgery waiting room as well as a peek into one of the operating rooms. Photography was limited to protect the privacy of patients. There is plenty of light throughout the facility, outdoor seating areas and a central atrium with a huge bird mobile. Good bye Birds…

Did You Know that The Buckeye Ranch serves over 1,300 young people every day?

Wow! In the back of my mind it was this camp-like place in Grove City, but Tim Woodard, the managing director of development for The Buckeye Ranch set me straight at our Kiwanis meeting on January 18th.

While The Buckeye Ranch does have residential services (they house 88 children currently) they offer a wide variety of other services throughout the community.  They have community based programs (one of their centers is a renovated Big Bear)that accept Medicaid clients, foster care in Columbus, Grove City, Newark, Cincinnati, and Dayton, educational programs and more.

The  Buckeye Ranch has over 400 employees and is embarking on a campaign to raise $7.5 million to fund critical renovation and expansion.  If you would like to give to the Ranch go to http://www.buckeyeranch.org/How_to_Give.html.

Member Sharing – November 2009

 November 24, 2009

Our first ever Member Sharing spotlighted Josh Lantz (right) of Griffin-Lantz Insurance and Greg Morck (below) of gdm Specialty Printing.

Josh covered some of the ins and outs of Property and Casualty Insurance.  He reminded us to get another quote for our coverage just to make sure we are getting the best price for our needs.

Greg shared with us some of the products he can provide to help us promote are business. The printing he does on products like t-shirts is a process that binds with fabric it self and is permanent. Greg gave us tips on what products to use where.

Josh and Greg – Thanks for being the first members to Share!

Dublin Area Art League Has Much to Offer

November 3, 2009

Cindy BrydenCindy Bryden, President of the Dublin Area Art League (DAAL), shared information about  many of the League’s activities.  Each year members may participate in Art Shows in Dublin.  The most current is a Fall Show that is being displayed at the Dublin Recreation Center.  The shows are judged and prizes awarded.  In the summer there is a “Paint Out” competition.  Participants are assigned a theme in the morning and must complete it within a specific time period that day.  Entries are shown at the Dublin Library after the judging.

DAAL has taken over the Annual Art Show in Summer.  The venue in 2009 was in front of the middle school on Bridge Street.  Members also participate in Slainte Thursday.  They can be seen creating artworks in front of BriHi businesses.  Members’ works can be seen around Dublin throughout the year at the Rec Center, Starbucks, Edward Jones, and National City Bank.

The DAAL meets the second Thursday of the month at the Dublin Public Library.  See http://www.dublinohioart.com/ for more information.
